
The Island of Guam Located in the Western Pacific, Guam is the largest and most populated island in the Marianas.  The island of Guam is the largest island of the Micronesian islands. Located in the Western Pacific, just across the International Date Line at 13°28" north latitude and 114°45" east longitude.
Guam is just a 3 hour flight away from the Asian capitals of Tokyo, Taipei and Manila, and it welcomed more than one million tourists in 1999, most from Japan.

With about 156,000 residents, Guam is the most populated island in Micronesia and is Two hundred-twelve square miles in size. Guam is part of an underwater mountain range running southward from Japan, and is the southernmost island in the Marianas island chain.

Guam was ceded to the US by Spain in 1898 and was captured by the Japanese in 1941. It was retaken by the US three years later. The military installation on the island is one of the most strategically important US bases in the Pacific. |
